The Factory Automation System Integrator
Use a System Integrator for More Complex
Projects

For the larger and more complex projects, it is recommended to hire an
integrator.
What is a Systems Integrator?
My idea of one, is as follows - Can be large or small, regarding number of
employees, but must be very strong, in the areas of mechanical engineering and
systems programming. Don't be alarmed, if you notice an empty plant, when you
visit a potential supplier. The integrator's business is such that the plant can
be full at one moment and empty a day later (After shipping a system).
The selection of one, to suit you and your project, is probably, the most
important decision, to be made. A close, working relationship with you and your
people is essential.
The systems integrator, brings unique experience and knowledge to a project,
without adding to the payroll.
Look at the company's organization, the process development capabilities and
prior similar experience.
Are the potential companies located close by? If they are, then service and
assistance later are simpler to arrange.
Many times, a good integrator, will suggest part changes, to improve the
automation process. The savings realized, from some of these suggestions,
can be considerable, as well as applying to future projects.
Establishing a long term relationship, with a good organization, can be very
beneficial to your company and contribute directly to the bottom line.
