The Scara Robot. The scara robot can be used for small part assembly.
The design of the robot arm is such, that any assembly forces are easily absorbed. These robots are generally 4-axis servo controlled machines, therefore are freely programmable. They are less expensive, than a 6-axis robot, so if the application allows, it makes financial sense, to use them. An excellent application for this type of robot is known as "palletizing". Many times it is required to take a part and place it in a storage pallet. In this application, the "pick" point is common and the "place" point is variable, for every cycle. As these robots are freely programmable, a "canned" program is usually available. This machine can also be used to lightly press parts into position. Different
models have various force absorption capabilities - so as always - check that
the selected model will do the job. Please note that the above listed companies are by no means the only manufacturers, nor the only ones we have used, over the years, but they do make an excellent product, THAT IN THE CORRECT APPLICATION, should give years of trouble free service.
