The Rotary Indexer

The Rotary Indexer is a Circular Table that moves the Part from Station to Station.

The indexer (or dial indexer) is a usually a cam controlled, circular table, around which, automatic and manual stations are positioned.

The diameter of the table is determined by the total number of stations required-allowing sufficient space for people and part storage.

To minimize inertias, the table material is generally aluminum and for small part assembly, is normally no larger than 10 feet in diameter.

This type of system is totally SYNCHRONOUS, whereas the Linear Transfer System (LTS) is a NON-SYNCHRONOUS system.

When comparing dial indexers with linear transfer systems, the dial is usually the less expensive option.

However, it is not very flexible, when it comes to adding or moving stations, to accommodate changes, at a later date.
