Hose Cutter and How we Fulfilled on the Requirement of a Client.

Client

A small, private, business, with less than 50 employees, had a requirement for a hose cutter. Basic business, is importing, and reselling, plastic flexible electrical conduit, as well as designing and manufacturing special wiring harness assemblies.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION.

The plastic hose is imported in bulk, and cut-to-length, in house. This has been accomplished 100% manually, to date, using long benches, tape measures and a supply of manual razor knives.

This part of the business, has grown, to the point where this operation has become very labour intensive and prone to errors. The owner of the company approached us, and asked if we could find a way, of automating the process.

The plastic hose, is corrugated and available in different diameters, ranging from 10mm to 55mm.Prime requirements were-

1. Accuracy and repeatabilty, of cut lengths.
    
2. All cuts to be made in the "valley" of the corrugation.
    
3. Machine must be quick to change over and simple to set-up.
    
4. As well as the corrugated hose, the machine should also be capable of cutting wire, from 1/16"dia to 3/4" dia.
   

THE SOLUTION.

A search was initiated, to investigate the current state of available technology.

Eventually, three companies were asked to provide a quotation.

After much deliberation and discussion with our customer, the supplier was chosen.

Our choice, for a supplier of a hose cutter, was Marken Manufacturing.

Marken had developed a machine, that could be adapted to our application.

Project Summary

The total cost was less than $60,000.00 and delivery was reasonable.

Installation and start - up assistance, were available from the factory.

Total consulting hours were less than 200.
