Adhesive Dispense Units are used with Different Adhesive Processes

The use of Adhesive dispense units, can be successfully integrated into automation, using many different types of adhesive.

However, consideration must be given to some key points:

1. Fume Generation
   Most adhesives, give off a gas, that, at the least is obnoxious and at the worst lethal! Some form of hood and extraction unit is usually required.
    
2. Over-application
   It is not uncommon, for a small excess of material, to be applied, at every cycle. This can accumulate, until the whole area is contaminated. With some applicators, a "sniff-back" feature is available, that can help this problem.
    
3. Lack of service and/or Maintenance.
   It is essential to follow the manufacturer's directions, when it comes to service-especially as regards cleaning of application nozzles etc. Many expensive hours can be lost if units are allowed to clog!

A system usually consists of:

1. A bulk storage unit, for the adhesive.
    
2. An application nozzle, specifically designed for the type of adhesive selected.
    
3. A sensing system, that confirms the correct amount of material has been applied and maybe in the correct place.

Many manufacturers offer some type of robot to apply adhesive, in multiple positions or complex paths. The robots can be either Scara or Cartesian in design.
